The JimmyLand Tapes are here!

The JimmyLand Tapes are online! What are they? It's my grand experiment in podcasting. Unrehearsed casual conversations between my friends and myself. Have a listen and learn a little something about yourself and the world around you (...or not).

Thanks to the many friends who participated in these calls. It was a lot of fun and I hope to do more in the future. All files are downloadable, as well, as mp3s. Enjoy!

Astronaut Dave

My good friend, David Hopkins (D-Hop as he's known on the hard Brooklyn schoolyard courts), has a new book out; Astronaut Dad. In David's own words: " Originally, it started as a way to tell the story of my family -- a modern suburban family with all the obligations and fears that parents and children face. I set it during the Cold War,astronauts instead of business men. The fall-out shelter served as a nice metaphor. However, the story grew to feature three different families, and their problems as well. And towards the end, it ceased to be my story and it was there's. To this day, it's the only instance where a story literally took on a life of its own and moved in a direction I didn't completely anticipate."

Brent Schoonover is no slouch either. One of the coolest art styles around. Both guys are the nicest dudes you'd ever wanna meet. Read David's full interview here.

Lunch with a Legend

Just a bit blurry, but here's a pic of me and cartoon legend Sergio Aragones at a cartoonist brunch. This is maybe the fifth time I've met Sergio and each time he is really friendly and easy going.

Sergio has been an artistic hero of mine since
childhood. It was a pleasure to hang out with him and I feel lucky that my friend Stan Sakai (quite the legend in his own right) invited me to this event.

Ok, is that enough name dropping for one post?

Scenes from the Studio

Here, before you, lies the the recording genius of Bob Lujan, Mike Perez, and yours truly. This is a typical recording session with us. Mike had finished his guitar part, I laid down the bass, and Bob is adding a second track to "Up On You". We used the name Grand Stanley for this"group". Feel the awe. Bask in the glory.
