Cartoon Sketchbook

Just thought I'd share a little "behind the scenes" stuff with you. I recently started drawing the art for my animations in a sketchbook I had lying around. I'm really liking it right now. No more loose sheets of 8.5x11 paper floating around. Now I'm doing my artwork in a small sized hard cover sketch book. Well, as a matter of fact, you're looking at it now. How about that?

So Cal TV Interview

The Cartoonistas were featured on a piece for TV. This, right here, is a shortened version that is running for So-Cal News. I think the full version of the story will come out in April. Thanks to Richard McManus of So Cal News for interviewing us. You can see my cousin Amelia being interviewed, too. We are such a showbiz family, huh? Like the Osmonds...or Osbournes.

I WANT YOU!

Got 10 minutes?

This scene from the 1970s film SGT PEPPER"S LONLEY HEARTS CLUB BAND influenced my cartoons probably more than any other scene. I don't know why but the cheesiness mixed with an embarrassing coolness makes for sheer cinematic delight to me. I just love the cartoony nature of the film. Genius. Yeh, I said it.

iPhone Art

My friend Cesar has taken a photo of an acryllic painting I did (at the latest GEEKS event) and put it as the wallpaper on his iPhone. Nice. Thanks for sending the photo, Cesar. I feel so very high tech now....like Kanye West or the hipster guy at the Genius Bar at the Apple Store.

I'm on the Radio Radio!

Part One of my interview with Matt Leong from the DoubleDorkmeter podcast is online. We mainly talk about the Fakesplosion, my fake band radio show. CHECK IT OUT HERE!

West Covina Library Cartoonista event pics

Thank you to Nuvein and the West Covina Library staff for helping us with this event. Everybody seemed to have a good time watching the live art and we all had a good time mingling with folks.

The kids were great. Lots of audience participation. I mainly did this "doodle game", where the kids start a doodle on a page and I make it into a finished piece of art...or piece of something.

Javier, Gras, Bernice, and myself were representing the Cartoonistas this grand day.

Here I am showing off my patented strangle hold. Um....not the best thing to teach kids?

We had 100 plus in attendance. Thank you to everyone that came out. You made it a great day.

Andrew, quite possibly the happiest boy on Earth. He won the raffle for this poster I created at the event. I better not see that on E bay, kid. More photo and Video can be found HERE!

Cartoonistas Meeting

Well, when we get together you can't really call it a "meeting". It's too much fun to possibly be a "meeting". More like a get-together where we end up creating art and grubbing on delicious food. At this particular meeting, we were interviewed by Emma (nice!) from the San Gabriel Valley Highlander. She did a story on the Cartoonistas, what we are, who we are, and why we are. It was a really good experience. I'll post the article as soon as its out. Here some other stuff that went on:
Underwear AlphaNerd by me. This piece is for sale for a mere $120,000 (give or take a few thousands). It's also on display at the West Covina Library (seriously). Don't believe me? I'll show you pics soon (you non-believers).

Josr Cabrera joined us via web chat all the way live from Mexico. It was so nice seeing Jose. man, I miss that guy. He is one funny guy. Talented too. Great times. I called him "Mex Headroom" this night. Jose rocks.

Oil pastel chalk creation by Gras Rodriguez. Man, that girl gets better every week it seems. She's becoming our very own "Frida". She'll kill me if she reads this.

Special guest appearance from Vegas: by Nick (nephew) and his lady pal (fiance) Brie. These two can also draw like there is no tomorrow. It must run inthe family, and extended family.

Everybody got into the act, drawing, creating, laughing -etc. The Cartoonistas are a strange mix of laid back, casualness....yet we get things done. That is a dangerous combo. Look out San Gabriel Valley and beyond. Thanks to everyone that attended. We'll see you Saturday night in Whittier at Geeks (7pm-??)

Jim on the Idiot Engine

I had the honor of being the guest on my good friend Ted Seko's podcast; the Idiot Engine. I was the idiot, he was the engine. Enjoy!
