More Bill Plympton fun

Jose "Crying Macho Man" Cabrera, Bill Plympton, and Jim Lujan parlaying by the snack bar.

Jim Lujan, Bill Plympton, Raul Aguirre Jr, and Ken Mora just chilling out all LA style and such.

Friday night I had the opportunity to attend the LA premiere of Idiots and Angels, Bill Plympton's amazing hand drawn feature film. I found out about it through Ken Mora (film maker in his own right), and I introduced Raul Aguirre to Ken, and Raul worked his magic and that's how we got to interview Bill at his hotel the other day. A dazzling chain of events. Jose Cabrera, my good friend, joined us for the screening (which made the night all that more fun). Let me say that Idiots and Angels is truly amazing. Awe inspiring. I highly recommend going to the Laemmle's Sunset 5 and check it out. I was sitting there thinking "This is all coming out of one man's mind and onto his page by hand"! You have to see it to believe it!

To cap the evening off, Jose, Leann, and myself went to Canter's Deli and had knishes, matzo ball soup, and fizz sodas. Awesome! Check out the trailer for the film:

Bill Plympton...YAY!

Bill Plympton chilling in Studio City. My only surviving pic.

Tonight I met and interviewed independent animation legend Bill Plympton. He was super nice and very gracious. Raul Aguirre jr and I interviewed him for Raul's Man vs Art podcast. I took a ton of pics and video....but all but 3 got erased somehow. I have no idea, one minute they were there...the next POOF, gone! Oh well, I gave Bill a copy of Ghettomation Garden and he seemed genuinely thankful and interested. Bill is in town promoting Idiots and Angels, his new film. I'll be at the premiere in LA on Friday. My chance to get a pic with the guy....and save it!

Check out my AudioBoo on the night:

Return from the Planet of the APE

Well, I'm back from APE....the Alternative Press Expo, and let me tell you, it was quite the show.
Jam packed with crowds of people and really cool vendors selling really interesting goods. What a great building the Concourse Center is too. Nice sunlight and temperature. Great place for a show.

Oh yes there were BABES there. I'm even married to one of them!

Speaking of babes, here we are Kevin Cross, Jim Lujan, and Raul Aguirre, jr....hosts of the Ghettomation Podcast. All together for the first time ever. The universe did not stop, either!

Buds? Yes there were buddies galore. I even ran into my good pal artist Dave Crosland!
Lookee there...its 7 Cartoonistas! Gras, Raul, Javier, Jose, Bernyce, Me, and Michael! Where's Doc? Grumpy? Bashful? I guess I was Sneezy because I was sick! Great timing huh? Get sick AT a show, Nice going Jim!

Dinner at possibly the best Mexican food place in SF....El Farolito! So good!

Friends and family! Just like the phone plan!

A crazy weekend filled with crazy people in a crazy town. I will do it all again next year. I learned some old fashioned sellin' tricks! Thank you to the Berranti family for hosting Leann and myself. Again, family...got to love them!

Alphanerd Statuette

Check out this tribute bust of Alphanerd. Pretty sweet, huh? Oregon based creator Dan Burke created it. Really very cool job! This is what I would picture a 3D animated version of Alpha to look like. Really a trip to see it as a figure. Great colors. I especially like the job he did on the chin. The shape and cleft are really a nice touch. Really vibrant colors too. Pretty amazing!Between this and Javier Hernandez' John Henry Unicorn doll, I've become a regular Toys R Us! Thanks again!

Cartoonista Radio #10: Who's Goin' to APE?

Ran into Dave Kellett at the Pasadena Artwalk last night. Super nice dude. He's the creator of SHELDON. Figures, the one year I dont showcase there, he's there. Oh well. Nice meeting him.

Oh yes. Things got a little bit blurry that night.

Oh yes, we cannot forget my very good friends Geo and Nancy. It was really good seeing them. Two of the sweetest folks you'll ever meet. Talented too!

Alphanerd Bust

Wow...I just saw this. Pretty cool. First a mask now a bust...whats next....a board game? Check out this AlphaNerd bust created by Dan Burke. See the whole thing HERE.

Real Life AlphaNerd?!

Yup! This pic was taken at my booth at the SGV Comic Book Show. Actually, it's my friend Alex's costume and was a huge coincidence. We know there are really no coincidences, though. So, I take full credit. Can you imagine a live action AlphaNerd film? The Dork Detective would rock on the big screen. Write your congressman and lets get this thing done! Thanks for the pic, Alex!

Thanks to everyone that has sent in pics with my DVDs. It is much appreciated. Here we have cartoonist/animator Dan Burke posed with his copy Bench Warrant. Dan's been a fan of the cartoons and even did a tribute piece to John Henry Unicorn (I don't know if its on YouTube anymore....can't locate it). Its good to know Bench Warrant is warming hearts and bringing world peace to folks out there! Enjoy!

March of the Swizelstik Army!

My new film! This all started from a passing mention of a band in New Wave Dentist. Now its blossomed into a strange flower that throws TV sets out of hotel room windows. This cartoon gave me the opportunity to recruit some friends and family to do voices for me. Everyone did an unbelievably col job. I'm really proud of their performances. They really make this cartoon "pop".

My cast:

Jose Cabrera: Don Gigante
Jerzy Drozd: Jerry Rudolph music critic
Kevin Cross: Soccer Dad/Dave Dunleavy
Mark Rudolph: John on street
Raul Aguirre, jr: Councilman Sam Eagleson
Bill Moran: That was cool guy
Leann Lujan: Shut your mouth news scene
Me: the other stuff

"This Robot Loves" is actually performed by Bob Lujan,Jim Lujan and Mike Perez.

Enjoy!
