We've done some pretty successful events at the EVE, now I am officially family!

We'll, if you haven't been keeping up with my life on TMZ or E News Daily, here's a little update for you. It's official. I am a partner in an art gallery! Yup. EVE Gallery in Pomona (Second Street Artwalk). I've done events at the EVE, been going for quite a while now. Vic and Eddie asked Grasiella Rodriguez and myself to become official partners in the gallery last month. January makes it official. Look for plenty of art events coming up. We had our first gallery planning meeting, and there are some really interesting and cool events happening this year at the gallery. Animation, you ask?? Why YES...there will be toons...lots of them! Come by this month on the second Saturday and say hello to the new crew. We'd love to have you!

For my first post of 2012, I'd like to let you all know that I'm working on a new cartoon (to be ready in time for the "Animation Saves the World" event on 1/21/12). The title....PRINCE of POMONA (AKA Purple Ron). Its about a guy who shapes his life after the Purple One himself. Yes, there is Princely music. Coming soon!

The above pic is from movie night at Raul's house. He screened "Exit Through the Gift Shop" for some of the Cartoonistas a few weeks back. It was a wonderful time spent with good friends. This year has had its highs and lows (like any other year) but I'd have to say the friendships have been the highlight for me. That and my wife. Hope next year is a happy one and a comet doesn't wipe us all out. Theres a high note to end on, huh?

POMONA ,CA- Oh what a night. The first ever "Pomonamation (Tis the Season)" show was a hit! The idea was to take our usual gnarly group of animators and do a show tied in with a gallery show. The EVE Gallery was the perfect location. We did the art show/mixer from 6:00 pm then made our way over the the Black Box Theater (about 150 feet up the street). We had a packed house. Standing room only! I think everyone had a good time. Thanks to everyone who came out to the show and thanks to our friends and family for showing support. It was nice making so many new friends too. Below is a pictorial summary from my camera lens....

New Bobby Churro scenes (sneak peek)

I'm working on a longer form/extended Bobby Churro cartoon. I'm taking the original film an adding some additional brand new scenes to it. It will give a more rounded glimpse of Mr. Churro in his element. The Legend of Bobby Churro is basically about a low rent boxer from East LA who specializes in taking big dives for a shady promoter. Below are a couple of examples of new added scenes.

The above character, Officer Bill, is based on my good friend Bill Moran. I made him really OLD in this clip, but don't let the white hair fool ya, Bill's not THAT old!Bill is a great sport. He doesn't care how mean I make him or if he comes off brutal. The more vicious, the better the laugh. He's a JETS fan, go figure! :) Thanks Bill!

Here is a clip featuring my friends in the band KOUNTERCLOCKWISE. They were really excited to participate in a Ghettomation cartoon, and they delivered the goods big time! They also did the musical score for much of the cartoon. Great stuff! Thanks Deacon and Kaya!

The full film will be ready sometime in late November/early December. I'm looking at a twenty-something minute long final version. Stay tuned and tell a friend!

For those of you that don't know...I'm currently working on an expanded version of "The Legend of Bobby Churro". This will act as sort of a sequel/prequel all in one. It's going to be a longer cartoon and is chock full of guest stars. I wanted to wait until I was far enough along in the project before I made any posts. Well, I am now and it is coming along nicely. SAN FRANCISCO- Got back from APE late Sunday night (early Monday morning, actually). I had a great time hanging out with all of my friends and with my cousins in Frisco. APE was a good time this year. While I won't be retiring any time soon, it was worth the trip. Here are a few of the highlights for me...

909 Film Fest wrap up

Welcome to the 2nd annual 909 Film Festival. Please silence all phones.

The reception was jumping. Lots of nice peeps and good stuff.

Pitzer college is BEAUTIFUL. My first time exploring the campus really.

Gras (film maker), Leann (wife) and me (knucklehead) enjoying the reception after the show.

Pitzer College, Claremont, CA- Last night was awesome. The 909 film community (yes there is one!) showed up and made the 2nd annual 909 film fest a hit! So many nice folks. My film Freakdaddy got a great response. Really fantastic. Big laughs and big applause. Felt nice. It's great when strangers react like that to your work. Lots of folks came up to me after the show and told me how much they enjoyed it. It really seemed to strike a chord with people. Once again, I heard "you definitely should be on Adult Swim/Comedy Central, etc". That's a nice feeling. Now I just need to figure out how I am going to make that happen! Thank you Eddie Gee and Pitzer College. See you all at the Pomona Artwalk tonight!

Cartoon Truckstop Pics

Los Alamitos, CA- Tonight I'm back from the first ever Cartoon Truck Stop. The event was lots of fun. The weather was perfect and the food was even more perfecter-er. We ended up ditching the screen and playing the cartoons HUGE on the wall. Very ghetto and very effective. The crowd seemed to enjoy the spectacle. This was a "feeling out" of the whole outdoor fest thing, and it was a success in my eyes. People stuck around after dark and the show went about 30 mins longer than we originally thought it would. We've been asked back and I'm sure we'll do it again. Thanks to everyone that showed up and to all the animators that let me play their stuff. Let's do it again!

I had a dream. Food trucks lined up as far as the eye can see. All different styles, all delicious. Crowds of people gather, talk, and share a bite to eat. In the mist of the grey blue fog, shines the flicker of an outdoor video screen. On that screen, Ghettomation and other hilarious cartoons display as the crowds mingle and have a laugh together. A true communal event.

That dream, my friends, is now a reality. Food trucks meet indie animation. And you, are there...

Pomona Art Walk

POMONA, CA- Never been to the Pomona Art Walk held every second Saturday of the month? Let me tell you, we've been many many times and it is one of the true undiscovered gems of the art world. I say undiscovered with a bit of a wink. Lots of people know about it. Last night we took Jose "Crying Macho Man" Cabrerra and his lovely wife Naomi. They both reside in the Westside of LA with it's own thriving art scene. Jose was quite impressed and I think he's going to pursue his own art show in Pomona.

You see some interesting things in old Pomona.

The DA Gallery had a huge memorial show for artist Magu Lujan (no relation). It was packed and amazing.

All in all, if you're an artist, fan of the arts, or just like to look at cool buildings and have free food and drink- I highly suggest you check out the Pomona Art-walk every second Saturday of the month. Lots of really cool art and artists to see. Music, food, a real friendly atmosphere (kids too). If you just want the party scene, believe me it's there. We saw some artist loft parties that were straight out of Less Than Zero! Its a real mix and there is something for everyone. You can tour many of the artist's lofts, too. This won't be the "undiscovered" art scene for long. It's way too cool and vibrant.

The next art-walk is Saturday, September 10th. Save the date and see you there!

They re-kick started the show with an interview about Ghettomation and the joys of being an indie animator. I met both of the guys in San Diego when they stopped by my table. BURBANK- Last night Leann and I went to House of Secrets for legendary animator Bill Plympton's book signing. I picked up "Independently Animated", Bill's biography. Very cool. He signed it and drew a picture of Leann inside the sleeve. Hanging out at a such a cool shop with my wife, good friends, and my favorite animator...quite the evening. After, we all went to Barney's Beanery for a mixer. The fun continued. I've had the pleasure of spending a good chunk of time with Bill inthe last few months, and we always have the best conversations. This guy DOES what I would love to DO. Makes his own feature films, tours them, and owns the rights. Sweet. He's such a nice, warm guy to boot. Like I said, quite the night.

Laguna Hi De Ho Pics

Yesterday the Hi De Ho Laguna event was a lot of fun. First, ,the store s in a great location. You can see the beach from the front door. Secondly, the staff was super nice. They really made us feel welcomed. Saleem (owner) thanks for having us. Most of all, it was great hanging out with friends. I got a sneak peek of what selling at San Diego Comic-con (in 2.5 weeks) will be like. A microcosm sneek peek. Best of all, my wife Leann (and friends Linda and Bill) stopped by and we hung out after the show. We all (12 of us) ended up having dinner at a place right on the beach). It was a blast....very fitting for the 4th of July weekend.

My 2007 cartoon, Come to Daddy. I watched this today. Hadn't seen it in a while. I just realized this has over ten thousand views. Nice! This has all the elements of a classic Jim Lujan Ghettomation cartoon..nerds, strippers, bouncers, pawn shops, a theme song sung by Nissim....what more could anyone want? It's the story of a desperate strip bar patron and his undying love for a dancer named Roxy. This cartoon was animated using After Effects. I recorded two theme songs for this one, choosing Nissim's version as the final. So seedy, so durrty. Dig it. Great job, Nissim. And yes, that bouncer is modeled after street fighter Kimbo Slice. No real reason, just feelin' kinda Kimbo that day.

One part Kubrick, one part Lynch, and the rest is all ridiculousness.A little trivia for you: All of the names in this cartoon were taken from Los Angeles Kings hockey players through out the years.The theme song is called "Clowns" and its sung by the legendary NISSIM. Saturday Feb 26th I will be at GEEKS Sal-i-brating owner Sal's birthday! Some of the Cartoonistas will be there doing live art and there will be music,drinks and food. This is the 3rd Sal-i-Bration and they are always a good time. Come on down! Its free! Hope to see you there!

This just hot off the Hollywood press filmwire: My next cartoon film title is....

HARD CRUMBLER
It's the story of a guy who gets out of prison and is looking to find something he lost. Its about not letting your old demons get the best of you. Staying focused. It takes place in the world of the Inland Emperors, my fictional biker club from NO SHOES, NO SHIRT, NO SERVICE. Big Howdy will appear in this film as will the high desert and some of it's less desirables. The talented Nissim performs the theme song (another catchy tune). It's been a while since he last sang a theme song for me. We've been recording recently and have a BUNCH of hilarious new music. Nissim really channeled his inner AXL for this one. Wait until you hear it. I pulled this story from my back catalogue of ideas, following the pattern of Bobby Churro, New Wave Dentist, Freakdaddy, John Henry Unicorn and some of my other recent creations (which were all old stories of mine). Just what does Hard Crumbler mean? Well, you watch the story and tell me.
