So we missed August....but you're STILL back for more. We love you too. Were talking a little about Jim's new cartoon DVD, Raul's animation seminar, Kevin's next toon and zine, and other things we've been up to since we last recorded an episode.

Funny show. Glad to see you working on more films. IN the show you said you did not know what an exsheet was? Jim you know what an x sheet is. You watched it in the Animation Film School movie I sent you a year ago. If Flash is stuttering during making MOV files export the swf files and use a convertor to make them MOV. That takes FLASH out of it (the conversion to MOV files). or play the files in a test window and record the test with video screen capture softwate (you can also zoom in and out easily with this method) Also a dual processor on your MAC will speed up the render and large scratch disc with fast bus connected to it will help. Maybe for you, just put another drive into your MAC that you use a sole sratch disc. This will help the render. DOn't render over a minute. Do it scene to scene if you havt to.
Also by filming your tests (with screen video capture software) you use nested animations and they will play. Nested animations do not export in MOV files. This way you can use nested animations like a persons mouth moving independent of the timeline you are in.
And Raul may or may not be a FLASH expert, but it's a crude tool for a real animator. The $3,000 animation package the studio uses is alot better at animation than FLASH. But FLASH is much more than an animation tool. TOON BOOM is as limited as FLASH. Eventually it comes down to drawing 1000 of images (to make a smooth animation), no matter what program you use. The better (studio) programs and (studio)computers can render better than a HOME computer. Much better. I suspect even if you had all the stuff (studio software, and machines) you would not want to read the manuals and or learn how to use the programs. You are not a big details guy evidently. You would learn about 10%, enough to confuse yourself but get the job done. You like struggling and not knowing. It's part of the fun. Like driving somewhere with out a map..you never quite know IF or when you will arrive. He pulled a "lujan" will come to mean, "He refused to study, but got it done anyway!"
The X sheets are still pretty confusing to me, only because I dont currently use them. I know the reasoning behind them, but I've never touched them.
I am, by far, a storyteller first, and then an animator. It can't hurt for me to know a little more about animation, though. But with my current style, its never going to be high tech animation. If I get a crew working with me, I would use After Effects. That works fantastic with my style.

Then take all those scenes, stack them together in IMOVIE, add the soundtrack and you export the final film.
I think this part you do already.
